‘Healthy Ways for Teens and Parents to Communicate in Stressful Times’

Thank you to all the lovely young ladies who participated in our Emotional Intelligence and Mental Wellness GIRL$ Program earlier this month. Your fairy godmothers would also like to send a special thank you to our speakers, Yassin Hall and James Lingo, for sharing their wisdom and guidance on such an important topic.

As we work towards releasing the negative and embracing the positive this year, we recognize that living our best lives means centralizing self-love and perseverance-even during the tough times (don’t worry, we all have them). Luckily, it’s on those not so good days that speaking to a supportive figure can be just what we need to get our minds right.

Here are some articles with useful tips for strengthening communication between parents and teens:

To our young ladies, if those stressful times become more serious and you don’t know who to turn to, it’s still okay. While parents or trusted adults are usually the perfect people to talk to, they may not always be the most comfortable solution. As young women, you may find connecting with your loved ones difficult and may prefer talking to someone on the outside. If that’s the case, don’t worry! There are several safe and helpful resources available to you whenever you need them. And to their loved ones, don’t look at outside resources as substitutes for the significant role you play in their lives. Gaining an outside perspective first may make it easier for them to open up to you in the future. In the end, the most important thing is our girls being able to healthily express themselves in safe and secure environments.
