“It’s Prom Night, Not Your Wedding Night”

PUBLIC SERVICE ANOUNCEMENT: IT’S PROM DRESS GIVEAWAY TIME!!!

The Enchanted Closet, Inc. is prepped and ready to get you right for your special night! We can’t wait to see everyone this weekend for our largest event of the season! However, while we’re excited for the upcoming festivities, your Fairy Godmothers would like to take a moment to reiterate the importance of prom night safety.

As we’ve previously mentioned, young women often express feeling obligated to engage sexually on their prom night. These pressures may come from perceived societal expectations, friends, or even one’s date. To our girls, no matter who or where these beliefs come from, please remember that the only opinion that matters in this discussion is your own. If you ever feel overwhelmed or uncomfortable doing something you might regret, then maybe now isn’t the right time—and THAT’S OKAY! What truly matters is that you surround yourself with people who respect you and your decisions, even if it’s your decision to wait.

In the end, this is your prom night, not your wedding night. You should spend it stress-free, partying and enjoying the night with your favorite people—not worrying about peer pressure!!

With that said, if you do make the choice to have sex on prom night, we only ask that you are careful and that you use protection. The risk of STDs, STIs, or unplanned pregnancy does exist, so please be sure you and your partner are being safe. Finally, please be honest with yourself and make sure your partner is someone who truly values and respects you as the beautiful, amazing, and intelligent young woman you are.
